Dr, Kwakkel is a professor at UBC and will show us how he has examined
medieval letter forms and traced their development over time. Dr. Kwakkel
was previously at the University of Victoria and has done similar talks for the
Fairbank Society. This promises to be an illuminating talk.
Thanks to our member Merilee Hughes for making the contact with Dr.
Kwakkel and coordinating this exciting talk for us.

Bubbly and Brie: Exhibition Preview and Society Retospective
While working on the Journal, our archives revealed that the first ever calligraphy
meeting was a “wine and cheese” party.
To celebrate our Retrospective Journal, to be issued at the June meeting,
and toast our Through Rose-coloured Glasses Exhibition, we would like to repeat
the theme of the inaugural meeting. We may even have some original journals on display.
WCS will supply the non-alcoholic bubbly and asks members to bring charcuterie style nibbles to share – keeping in mind the ”wine and cheese” theme.
Don’t forget chocolate (or whatever sweets you fancy), because there can never
be too much cheese or chocolate!
Rose Wong will be presenting on her five day class Bold & Blended – Chunky Capitals and Minuscules in Belgian Bister Inks with Amity Parks.
Other Conference attendees will also share their work.
The Art Deco Rose
