AGM / BAKE SALE / POINTED BRUSH SNOWFLAKE

As you can see this will be a jampacked meeting. The most important component is the Bake Sale. This is our one fundraiser of the year. Members who are bakers are asked to bring their donations already packaged and priced to sell. Tables will be out for you to put your goodies on as you arrive. Shoppers – bring CASH! We always have a lot of great baked goods, many would be terrific for holiday entertaining if they last that long! Eveyone is free to browse the tables, but no actual picking up of goods or purchasing will take place until after the AGM.

AGM including ELECTIONS

Elections are for a two year term. We would love to have some new faces on the Executive. Many of the current executive having been serving for many years. Help is needed. Speak to any member of the executive if you are prepared to help. Sharing a current executive member prior to taking you taking on the position is possibility. What can you do to keep our Society vibrant!

We will also need to approve our financial report at this meeting. The report will be included in your copy of the October/November Bulletin, so you will have lots of time to look at it prior to the meeting. Copies will not be available at the meeting.

Exercises for Calligraphy and Freeform Miniscules @ Peace Church
Feb 26 @ 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm

Exercises for Calligraphy with Jennifer Isobe

We're not talking about drawing ovals or practicing pressure and release
here. We're talking about exercises for your body so that when you are
busy doing calligraphy you don't have to deal with sore muscles!
Jennifer will take us through some simple exercises that we can all do
at home prior to and during our time spent at our desks. After we've
done some beginning exercises, we'll look at

Freestyle Minuuscules with Wendy Cowley

These fun minuscules are drawn letters with relatively wide interior
spacing to allow for lots of fun decorations.  We'll first draw our
letters with a pencil and then go to town with adding embellishments!
Midway through we will stop for another short exercise session.
Hopefully, we will all find that when we make time for exercising we
don't have sore muscles when we finish.
Supplies to Bring:
Pencil
Ruler
Eraser
Fine Line Pen (e.g. Pigma or Staedtler fineliner or similar) 2 sizes are
nice if you have them.)
Paper (marker paper or bond paper or ....)

BENSGOTHIC

with Violet Smythe

We hope you will join us as Violet takes us on a journey looking at one of Ben Shahn’s  lettering styles, Bensgothic. She will show us her stylized variations and how she nests, stacks, and uses colour. This is an interactive program so you will have the opportunity to do some lettering. It is strongly suggested that you have a folded pen like the New Horizon
Nib (favoured by Yukimi Annand) or a Luthis Libelula or Tim’s Pen or a cola pen that can create fine line. If you don’t have any of these, you could opt for a stiff drawing nib
(pointed) or a Brause ¾ mm nib.

What to have on hand…
1. Folded pen(s) [and or Brause 3/4mm nib or
a stiff drawing nib]
2. Inks ? your favorite inks (sumi, walnut,
bister, other…) / liquid watercolor like
Ecoline (optional)
3. Paper ? good bond or Strathmore 400
series sketchbook or text wove or
something you like to work on that takes
ink and or watercolour
4. water containers

5. Paper towels
6. Twinkling H2Os, Yasutomo paints or
Finetec or similar
7. White gouache or Dr Martin Pen white or bleed proof white
8. Dark paper or cardstock
9. Palette with 5 or six wells
10. A brush for loading
11. Pencil or pen
