Our November meeting is Triple Barreled!!
- Well start off with our AGM. Since this is a non-election year the meeting should be very short.
- It will be followed by our annual bake sale. Members who like to bake bring goodies, already packaged and priced for the sale. Everybody gets to buy what looks good to them! Generally it takes only about 15 minutes for all the goodies to be snapped up, so you have to look around prior to the AGM and plan your shopping strategy.
- We have an exciting program planned on The Krafty Envelope.Come join us as Rose shares postage tips, handy for the upcoming 2019 envelope exchange.Brigitte will be sharing her technique for using white gouache and brush pen on kraft envelopes and cards.
Join us for an evening of sharing in our Calligraphy Circle as we focus on Seattletters, the International Conference which was held in Bellingham this summer. Members who attended show and share the work that they did in class.
There will be a short video presentation of the conference and then members will be free to wander around the tables and view the work and talk to the partcipants.
If you have work you’d like an advice on please bring it along too even if it has no relation to Seattletters.

Join us as Sherry shows us many ways we can add “sparkle” to our calligraphy.
More details soon.
This year our June Social is a three pronged event.
#1 Black & White exhibition pieces are due and will be put on display for all to admire.
#2 Visiting and Eating. Please bring something sweet or savoury for our buffet table. Plates, napkins and tea and coffee will be available. Join your fellow calligraphers and find out what they have planned for the summer.
#3 Declutter Event
Our first WCS de-clutter event! Our June 27th meeting is your chance to bring your overstocked artists’ supplies to the tea – things you know you’re never going to play with again.
Lindsay and Jan will set up 3 groups of tables for your unloveds:
You can place them on a table for anything that is free and up-for-grabs.
Price them and hope that someone else is looking for that exact same thing (pocket the profit or donate to WCS).
Place them in the Trading Post category and negotiate an exchange with another member.
If you have items you want to donate without having to mind the store – Lindsay and Jan will take responsibility for your donations.
Nothing will find its way into the landfill if we can prevent it.
Martin Jackson will be talking about how he is able to join his two passions, Butterflies and Calligraphy, to create beautiful art. This is a rare opportunity to hear Martin and see his work.
Our first Calligraphy Circle will be held at our April 25/2018 meeting. Please join our CIRCLE of sharing, learning, helping and practicing calligraphy skills and techniques.
How Do You Do This?
Bring: A project of some sort to work on or not – your choice.
Questions: Be prepared to ask questions on how to do something that may not be working for you. Or ask someone who is working on a project “How do you do that?” “What tool are you using?”
Advice: Would you like some advice on how to fix your layout or choice of lettering,
ink, colour, etc?
Demo and Hands On Table
There will be some graphite and sumi ink supplies to try out. Do you have a new tool or supply you would like to share? Perhaps, you have something you bought ages ago and don’t really know how to use. Maybe somebody can give you some advice.
Violet Smythe, one of our talented members will be teaching a one-day class on Ben Shahn letters for us in May. Registration is now open. More details on the Seminars page.
